Playground & Fitness Equipment Testing and Impact (HIC) Testing
Our playground and fitness equipment testing department is a laboratory approved under Section 12(a) of the Standards Law, 5713–1953, and performs periodic safety inspections of playground equipment, fitness equipment and the surfacing around them – throughout the country.
The tests are annual laboratory tests, performed in accordance with the mandatory standards:
• Playground equipment – according to IS 1498
• Fitness equipment – according to IS 1497
• Impact (fall-attenuation) testing – according to BS 1177
The tests are performed for: Municipalities, local authorities, educational institutions, kindergartens, public parks, maintenance companies and private bodies that operate playground equipment and physical-activity equipment.
Purpose of the Tests
The purpose of the tests is to verify that the playground and fitness equipment is safe to use, meets the requirements of the standard and provides as protected an environment as possible for children, youth and adults. The tests enable:
Detection of safety defects and physical hazards in the equipment and landing surfaces
Verification of compliance with the requirements of the Israeli and international standards
Obtaining an up-to-date status picture for maintenance, repair and upgrading of the equipment
Reduction of injury risks and the legal liability of the operating party
What is checked in playground and fitness equipment testing?
During the test, the following are examined, among others:
Signage
Site and equipment marking, presence and validity of inspection, standard mark, usage instructions and warnings.
Equipment structure
Integrity and stability of the elements, bending, missing parts, cracks, deformations, improper freedom of movement and more.
Risk of body-part entrapment
Openings, gaps and barriers in accordance with the standard's requirements, to prevent entrapment of the head, fingers and other body parts.
Surface finish
Missing coating, rust, wear, grooves, splinters, sharp edges and other defects that may cause injury.
Connections, edges and moving parts
Bolts, nuts, hinges, pivots of moving parts and handrails – checking integrity, tightness, protection and prevention of friction and injury.
Seats and means of access
Stairs, ladders, ramps, handgrips and seats – checking integrity, stability and proper fastening.
Chains, ropes and cables
Checking integrity, wear, soundness, connection arrangements and anchoring points.
Wooden parts
Detection of rot, insect damage, cracks, sharp points and breaks.
Foundations
Checking stability and connection to the ground – play, protrusion, detachment and settlement.
Consumable parts
Caps, rubbers, plastic parts, shock absorbers and other wearing elements – absence, bending, wear, breakage and more.
Surfacing
Integrity, suitability of the surface type to the standard's requirements, cleanliness, ongoing maintenance and validity of the impact (HIC) test.
Impact (HIC) testing – fall-attenuation testing
In addition to the equipment inspections, our company performs impact testing (Head Injury Criterion – HIC) to verify that the play and fitness surfaces meet the standard's requirements, using a dedicated impact-testing device. This test measures the surface's ability to attenuate a fall and reduce the severity of a head injury when falling from a defined height, and it is a key component in assessing the safety of the equipment and the surface together. The tests we perform are part of our moral and professional responsibility – to ensure that our children and the users of the equipment enjoy a safe, compliant and controlled environment.
