Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Structural Surveys & Structure Mapping

The non-destructive testing department specializes in structural testing using advanced methods, for the reconstruction, mapping and characterization of the skeleton and structural components in all types of buildings. The company combines accumulated engineering experience, a professional team and advanced measurement technologies, and operates under supervision and in accordance with the procedures of the Israel Laboratory Accreditation Authority.

Purpose of the Tests

The purpose of the non-destructive tests is to provide developers, engineers, architects and designers with a reliable and up-to-date status picture of the building's components, its structural condition and the characteristics of its skeleton – even before planning decisions are made and execution works begin. Through the tests, one can obtain, among other things:

Mapping and characterization of the skeleton and structural components

Understanding of the physical and structural condition of the building's elements

Support for the design of strengthening, building additions, preservation or renovation

Who needs the tests and why?

Non-destructive tests (NDT) are required in a wide range of situations, including for:

Seismic vulnerability assessment according to IS 413, before full or partial demolition of structures, including projects under NOP 38/2.

Mapping and characterization of a building's skeleton before performing strengthening and building additions, in NOP 38/1 projects or the preservation of historic buildings.

Renovation and building additions in all types of structures:

Residential buildings and homes, offices, malls, parking structures, educational and public institutions and more.

Tests to assess the load-bearing capacity of structural elements – as part of strengthening design or checking the building's suitability for new uses.

The types of tests we specialize in

MSI's non-destructive testing department performs a range of advanced tests, including:

Tests to detect and characterize concrete/steel walls and columns and others

Mapping the element type, thickness, internal structure and more.

Tests to detect and characterize ceiling types, including "Pal-Kal" ceilings

Identification of the construction method, layers, hidden elements and additions.

Tests to detect and characterize beams

Understanding the layout of the beams, their dimensions and their position relative to the overall skeleton.

Identification of the quantity, diameter and spacing of the reinforcement bars

Tests to detect the type, quantity and layout of reinforcement bars and their condition

Checking their condition, including detection of corrosion

Detection of cables, profiles and additional elements in all types of structural elements

Hardened-concrete strength testing

According to IS 26 Part 7 – for assessing the concrete strength in an existing structure.

Tests to detect and characterize the foundation type

Obtaining information on the foundation type and its configuration for assessing stability and bearing capacity.
